Information to help you explore the local area

Our property is situated in the heart of the PARC NATUREL REGIONAL Perigord-Limousin, famous for its many lovely lakes.

We live in a region of France that is lush and famous for its Limousin cattle and is home for many different species of birds of prey.

Over the last 7 years we have explored our surroundings during the Spring, Summer and Autumn and collected information on our favourite events.

Although the region does not have the abundance of Chateaux that one finds in the Dordogne, there are several that are quite stunning and worth a visit.

For those interested in churches there are many to visit in the villages that surround us.

  • Rochechouart - 10-15 minutes away from our hamlet and has a lovely Chateau set on a hill overlooking  a lake which hosts the firworks on the 14th July and where we meet with friends for a picnic beforehand.  The town is a very pretty one and has shops, restaurants and banks.

  • Other Chateaux worth a visit are La Rochefoucauld a 30 minute drive from us or, a bit further but worth the effort, the famous Chateau de Pompadour. As well as the Chateau, it is also famous for the Pompadour National Anglo-Arab stud, as well as it's stunning race course, which is host to many events during the season.

We have taken part in all of the events described and return to them every year, so we are very happy to advise visitors on what to visit.

We also have maps of the local area which are similar to the ordanece survey maps and are helpful for walkers and cyclists.

Walking

  • This region is famous for its many lakes and there are many lovely walks around the lakes or in the woodland areas.

  • These walks are well signposted for ramblers and cyclists as well as those just wanting a short stroll,They are colour coded to indicate the length of each walk.  It is entirely up to you how far you want to explore.

Leisure

  • The lakes have lovely picnic areas and some have bars and restaurants as well as leisure activities duriing July and August.

  • One such lake is situated 10 minutes away from us and has facilities for boating, swimming and beaches. There is also horse or pony trecking available at 2 local equestrian centers.

  • There are bars and restaurants on either side of the lake.

  • At all other times of the year this lake is a lovely to visit a favourite with our dogs and fishermen with lovely walks and great for photography or painting.
